Supporting Charities - Policy

Helping Charities and Community Organisations

We support Charities in different ways.
  • We can provide advice on setting up a coffee based, income generating activity.
  • We also raise money for local and national charities by holding coffee mornings.
  • We can provide small coffee machines, at a reduced prices or even consider donating refurbished coffee machines, for a charity to start an income generating activity.
  • We support charities by giving them small amounts of money, from time to time. The money for this purpose can be raised by us for a specific charity or by allocating some of our own income for charitable purposes.
  • If we raise money for specific charities, we ensure that this money is paid out immediately.  If we raise money for non-specific  charities, we shall hold this money in a specific fund and allocate this fund to charities of our choosing, based on a criteria that will be available for inspection by any charitable organisation or government or charities commission.

Mitochondrial Disease or ‘Mito’ is a genetic disorder affecting the mitochondria – the ‘battery packs’ in our cells. When they fail to produce enough energy, damage occurs – especially to the major organs.

Many factors are contributing to the rise of food poverty, including national welfare reforms, job loss from the Covid pandemic, the rise of zero-hours contracts, and the increases in the cost of living. The Welcome Centre provides food, toiletries and other essentials alongside a one-to-one advice, guidance and support service tailored to people's needs.

Curious Motion is a non-profit arts organisation using dance, movement, and creativity to tackle loneliness and isolation in Calderdale. Their work intersects dance and health, with a focus on togetherness and connection for individual and collective wellbeing. They work with people of all ages and backgrounds, with a particular focus on supporting underrepresented groups and those at risk of health inequalities.

This year, Curious Motion will be presenting Welland Festival, an arts for wellbeing festival in the town of Elland. This will be a special opportunity for the whole community to come together, try new things, and boost a sense of pride and togetherness in their area. The festival will be taking place on Wednesday 30th October and will include a range of creative activities and workshops plus special performances from professional and nonprofessional dancers and artists local to the area. Welland is part of Curious Motion's commission for CultureDale - Calderdale's year of culture.

"Poverty is so much more than going without. It’s so much more than lacking materially. Poverty destroys lives. It robs people of joy, hope and opportunities. It tears families apart, isolates those most in need of support, and leads many to believe there is no way out. Before seeking help, 1 in 2 of our clients had considered or attempted suicide."
