Quick Set Up - Gaggia Anima Range

Always read the manufacturer's intructions.

This is a Quick Set up guide for the Gaggia Anima Range. 


The Anima range comes already assembled. The only item that the user needs to fit is either the :
  • Milk Frother [Anima Black] or
  • Cappuccinotore [Anima Deluxe] or
  • Milk Carafe [Anima Prestige and Anima Class]

Other items supplied are :
  1. Power Cord
  2. Ground Coffee Scoop/Grinder adjuster
  3. Lubricant for brewing unit
  4. Water Filter (on some models only)
  5. Instruction Manuals

Common Features
  1. User friendly Display Screen
  2. Removable Brewing Unit
  3. Click/Remove Drip Tray
  4. Bean Hopper with 5 grind settings adjuster (use the Ground Coffee Scoop/Grinder Adjuster to change the fineness-
    1. Note : Do not adjust the grinder when it is not in use. Only adjust when the grinder is grinding
    2. Note : Make sure the bean hopper is dry. Keep the lid  closed to avoid any water or other materials accidentally getting into the hopper
  5. Removable Water Tank
  6. Adjustable Brew Dispenser
  7. Two Programmable Coffee Buttons. to set coffee sizes - eg Espresso and Long Coffee : When the machine is ready to use, press and hold the button until the screen prompts MEMO. 
  8.  ​Aroma Strength Button : You can adjust the strength from 7g to 11g of coffee. The button also is used to select Pre-Ground Coffee Option
  9. Menu Button allows further options for Coffee Temperature adjustment, Stand-by Timings, Descale Level selector, Factory Reset and Descaling.

Start Up
  1. Fill Water Tank
  2. Fill Bean Hopper
  3. Connect Power Cord
  4. Switch on Machine using the on/off switch at the back of the machine.
  5. Press standby button to switch on machine
  6. The machine will try sending water through the steam pipe to prime the water circuit.
  7. Once priming is completed the machine will start up, showing the heating bar on the screen, moving right as the machine heats up
  8. On reaching the brew temperature, the machine will rinse water through the front dispenser.
  9. You may see some steam coming though the vents after every rinse/brewing/steaming function is completed.
  10. The machine is ready for use.
  11. Press the aroma button for the strength required [or select pre-ground option.]
  12. Press the required coffee button - espresso or lungo
  13. Machine will grind the beans, brew the coffee and dispose of the spent coffee grounds into the dreg box.
  14. The brew group will go back to the home position. Do not turn off the machine while the brew group is moving to or from home position.
  15. Empty Dreg Box when full or at regular intervals. Also empty the Drip Tray.
  16. The Brew Unit needs to be removed and cleaned once every week or every 30 coffees. Wash Brew unit under cold running water to flush any coffee grounds.
  17. The lubricant provided with the machine can be used to lubricate the moving joints of the brew unit  every 6 months or 5000 coffees whichever happens first.

Cappuccinotore : Draws milk directly from a carton of milk and froths it into a cup
Cappuccinotore is fitted as a standard on the Anima Deluxe but can be fitted on the Anima Black and all the other Gaggia models of machines other than the Accademia and Babila models

Milk Carafe fitted on the Anima Prestige allows you to make a one touch cappuccino. You can add milk even when the machine is dispensing the cappuccino, just in case you are running out of milk.

Water Tank and Bean Hopper on the Anima are easily accessible and can be filled while the machine is operating.
