Back flushing a gaggia classic
You can backflush a Gaggia Classic to help maintain the cleanliness of the brew group and solenoid valve. Backflushing helps remove coffee oils and residues that can build up over time.
Here are some recommendations:
Products/Equipment : Use a backflush detergent specifically designed for espresso machines, such as Gaggia Degreasing tablet, Puly Caff, or Cafiza. If you have a perfect crema basket, it's best to use it for backflushing as it allows the water to escape if there's too much pressure. If you are using a blank, please make sure you do not over do the pressure.
Instructions for Backflushing :
Insert the basket filter into the portafilter and add a small amount of backflush detergent.
Lock the portafilter into the group head.
Activate the brew cycle for about 3-5 seconds, then stop. Repeat this process a few times.
Remove the portafilter and rinse it thoroughly.
Repeat the process with clean water to ensure all detergent is flushed out.
Additional Cleaning Tasks :
Regularly clean the steam wand and ensure it's free of milk residues.
Wipe down the exterior of the machine and keep the drip tray clean.
Lubricate the brew group seals and moving parts as needed.
Following these steps will help prolong the life of your machine. Always refer to your user manual for specific instructions and ensure you're using recommended products to avoid affecting your warranty.
